Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is committed to ensuring that there is equality of opportunity throughout the Trust for all our staff, patients, and visitors.

We believe that everyone has the right to be treated fairly regardless of their race, colour, sex, religion/belief, nationality, ethnic origin, disability, marital status, gender identity, sexual orientation, social background and age.

Moorfields continues to strive for excellence in areas of equality and diversity, and has implemented a range of policies and procedures to support this agenda and to ensure continued best practice.

Gender equality scheme

The Trust's gender equality scheme was published in April 2007 (see related links, opposite). The scheme applies to all women and men, including transgender people, and explains how we intend to tackle discrimination on the basis of gender and improve equality between men and women.

Disability equality scheme

The Trust published its first disability equality scheme in December 2006 (see related links, opposite). The scheme describes how we will address the discrimination and inequalities faced by disabled people. It is supported by a detailed action plan which will be monitored and reviewed over the next 12 months.

Race equality scheme

The Trust's race equality scheme (see related links, opposite) outlines our general and specific duty to eliminate harassment and ensure equality of opportunity for people from different ethnic backgrounds.

An ethnic staff network group acts as a support group for staff members from minority ethnic backgrounds and also actively organises events around the Trust for staff.

There are also a range of policies in place to support equality and diversity, covering issues such as equal opportunities, the employment of disabled people, tackling harassment and bullying, and whistleblowing.
